Pontiac "Crossover" Gives Good Vibes - A Handy and Flexible Little Car

General Motors' latest collaboration with Toyota has brought us a nifty set of wheels that's perfectly at home in a wide variety of applications.

The General's version is the Pontiac Vibe (Toyota's is the Matrix), a five door wagon with enough space and configuration choices to make it ideal for young people, sales people - or just ordinary people who want a small and economical vehicle with more room than the average four door sedan offers.

Both the Vibe (which starts at $16,990US) and the Matrix are based on the Toyota Corolla, which is an excellent starting point. And while they offer similar features, the Vibe is arguably the better-looking of the two. more...


Aztek: Pontiac’s Combination Shot - An "SUV-nivan?"

Pontiac has built what may be the ultimate vehicle for homeless yuppies.

Its 2001 Aztek is a kind of hybrid, but not the gas/electric type of hybrid Honda and Toyota are pushing. Rather, it’s a hybrid minivan/SUV, taking highlights from both types of vehicle and creating something truly unique.

It’s truly ugly, too, but you don’t see that from behind the steering wheel and that makes it a lot easier to take – until you get out again.

I spent about a week with the Aztek GT and, while it isn’t the type of vehicle I would buy, it seems safe to say that those of the “young at heart and outdoorsy” persuasion may find it a nice blend that fits well into their lifestyles. more...
