Rotel Introduces New RC-1082 Stereo Preamplifier and RB-1072 Power Amplifier
North Reading, MA—January 2007—Rotel Electronics, well-known throughout
the world as manufacturer of affordable high-end audio and video components,
has introduced a new high-performance stereo preamplifier, the RC-1082 and
power amplifier the RB-1072 that are ideal for music and home-theater audio-video
systems.
Mike Bartlett, Rotel’s Vice President and General Manager says “With
all of the excitement and consumer interest in home theater today, one might
wonder why Rotel, would invest substantial R&D in manufacturing new two-channel
products. The answer is that our customer feedback has clearly shown that there
is still significant interest among enthusiasts for improvements in delivering
a better music listening experience. Many of these people believe that they
don’t need all the bells and whistles that accompany a surround- sound
system. They simply want to listen to music and Rotel has always been, first
and foremost, an electronics company that takes sound quality very seriously.”
RC-1082 Stereo Preamplifier
A preamplifier has a relatively simple but important job. It is the control
center for all source components. Further, it must be able to select the signals
from these different components, isolate them from each other, and amplify
them without changing anything but the size of the output voltage and current.
The audiophile’s ultimate goal is a preamplifier that is a “straight
wire with gain.” Anything added or taken away at this point is greatly
magnified as signal distortion when it gets to the power amplifier.
Rotel understands the importance of keeping the signal as pure as possible
all the way through the electronics chain. The RC-1082 stereo preamplifier
has been designed to reproduce music as faithfully as possible and to provide
the total experience intended by the original artists. Rotel achieves
that goal by carefully selecting the components that go into their electronics
and in the design of the circuit topology itself.
To begin, it is critical to have a robust power supply. The RC-1082 features
an overbuilt toroidal transformer with high current output feeding independent
reservoir/ rectifier circuits. The premium filter capacitors are T-Network
designs made in the UK selected for their high capacity and fast charge/discharge
times which result in solid bass and transparent midrange and high frequencies.
The circuits for each channel follow Symmetrical Circuit Trace strategy to
ensure precise timing, pinpoint imaging and accurate soundstaging.
While the RC-1082 is designed for the hi-fi purist in terms of absolute musical
fidelity, it is also a very flexible design that accommodates up to nine source
components including CD, tuner, two tape inputs, and two auxiliary inputs,
as well as a low-noise, high-overload MM/MC phono stage with discrete, differential
input stages. The line level inputs are switched via high quality relays applied
to a pair of IC buffer stages for each channel. There’s also a media
player input on the front panel to accommodate MP3 players. In addition
to its generous input capabilities, Rotel’s RC-1082 is a custom installation
friendly device that can be controlled from a remote access point via its RS-232
interface or IR input. The preamplifier includes more features such as a detachable
AC cord, a full-function remote control and discrete on/off remote control
command codes.
Musical, accurate, and accommodating, the RC-1082 preamplifier is the perfect
choice for audio enthusiasts seeking the best in hi-fi performance.
RB-1072 Stereo Power Amplifier
Rotel’s new RB-1072, a 100-watt-per-channel stereo power amplifier is
based on the much-heralded Class- D switching platforms of Rotel’s RMB-1077,
RB-1092 and RB-1091 amplifiers. Thanks to its innovative design, it can
be placed in space-restricted installations without fear of performance degradation.
Compared to conventional amplifier designs, the RB-1072 needs little ventilation
and runs relatively cool even under demanding operating conditions.
Although the RB-1072 is compact at only 2-3/8” high, there is nothing
small about this amplifier. It is powerful and refined and characterized by
senses of speed, depth, and transparency that set it apart from the competition. Rotel’s
engineers have methodically applied our Balanced Design Concept (BDC) to create
a very impressive design.
The RB-1072 features innovative engineering that has transformed early Class
D amplifiers from less-than-stellar sounding products into true audiophile
components. Two of these design accomplishments are MECC (Multivariable Enhanced
Cascade Control) and COM (Controlled Oscillation Modulation) which substantially
reduce pulse-amplitude and pulse-timing errors. Together, these technological
solutions, along with Rotel’s BDC, have helped changed the future of
power amplification and have allowed Class-D switching amplifiers to realize
their full potential of high power, low heat, reduced chassis size, and first
class sound.

Rotel Brings a New 1080i Video Scaler to Market
North Reading, MA—January 2007—Rotel, well-known throughout the
world as an affordable high-end manufacturer of components for music and home-theater
audio-video systems, has introduced the RVE-1060, 1080i video
scaler, which seamlessly brings together analog and digital video sources.
“Devices such as VCRs, cable-TV set-top boxes, and DVD players can all
be routed simultaneously alongside digital video sources such as off-air high-definition
signals, HDMI set-top boxes, and DVI adaptable devices,” says Michael
Bartlett, Vice President and General Manager of Rotel America.
Analog video can be fed into the RVE-1060 and then output
to a high-definition display. The RVE-1060’s scaling
functions are so advanced that it will calculate the appropriate resolution
for a specific display device. Whether it’s 1080i or 720p, your high-definition
television will be maximized for optimum performance.
The RVE-1060 provides users who already own Rotel surround
preamplifiers or receivers with an excellent HDMI video upgrade path. There’s
no need to replace current AV processors or receivers—just insert the RVE-1060,
which will then handle all video scaling and switching to let you immediately
enjoy the benefits of digital video. Simply plug in a video source and leave
the audio connections in the receiver or processor. Automatic video switching
is communicated through the RS-232 connections on both the RVE-1060 and
the surround processor, making operation invisible to the user. Any of the RVE-1060’s
video inputs can be assigned to match the source inputs of the audio processor,
thereby simplifying and expanding the system’s future capabilities. Of
course, the RVE-1060 can also be used with other manufacturers
A/V processors and receivers. However, it is necessary to switch the RVE-1060’s
video input and the other brand’s processor or receiver’s audio
input together. This function can be integrated into a macro command on a learning
remote control, or via RS-232 commands.
The RVE-1060 is designed to convert the signal from any analog
source to a higher digital format, combine it with any onscreen display (OSD)
information from the source, and output them to virtually any screen. The RVE-1060 also
provides for an analog screen to be connected with simultaneous viewing output.
Why
do we need scaling?
In the analog world, all TVs and video sources matched perfectly because there
was only one picture ratio, 1.33:1 (aka 4:3), and only two possible number
of lines of vertical resolution (480 in the US, 576 in Europe). With digital
video, this is no longer the case. Digital sources present several different
formats, and the RVE-1060 is designed to work with all of
them.
Simple integration—flawless
performance
When first connecting the primary display device to the RVE-1060 using
the HDMI output, the scaler’s automatic communication will independently
discover the maximum the display’s maximum native resolution and set
itself to consistently output that resolution to that display. Once the RVE-1060 has
been set to match the screen’s native resolution, it will then always
scale the source information up or down to fit the screen’s maximum resolution
up to 1080i.
To reiterate this key point: When used with a screen that has a maximum native
resolution of 720p, the RVE-1060 will scale up all inputs
to 720p. However, should there be a source with a resolution lower than 720p,
the RVE-1060 will scale that image down without picture loss.
The RVE-1060 has two HDMI inputs and 11 analog inputs split
between three component, four S-video, and four composite. The outputs are
one each of HDMI, component, S-video, and composite. Also featured are an RS232
interface and discrete IR commands.
Not all scalers are created equal. Those installed or built into TV monitors
are unlikely to match the quality of the RVE-1060. No two
brands of scalers are alike, and the mathematics involved in calculating the
additional information needed to convert a lower-resolution video source signal
into one of higher resolution is very complex. Having the scaler figure out
what to add to flawlessly present the best picture quality is a very difficult
task.

Rotel
Launches Two Advanced Power Conditioners
North Reading, MA-April 2006-Rotel Electronics, an affordable high-end manufacturer
of components for music and home-theater audio-video systems, has introduced
two new power conditioners, the RLC-1080 and the RLC-1040.
"Rotel
is dedicated to offering its customers a complete suite of audio/video components
that succeed in creating that first-hand experience A/V enthusiasts crave," said
Mike Bartlett, Rotel's North American vice president. "Knowing that power disturbances
can ruin that experience, we are pleased to offer high-performance power-protection
solutions. In a co-project with APC (American Power Conversion), the proven
global leader in power-protection products, Rotel has developed a solution
with which its customers can protect and maximize their systems with a choice
of two new high-end line conditioners that match the look and feel of their
other components."
Both models provide complete system protection against spikes, brownouts,
over-voltages, and RFI noise. In addition, the RLC-1080 can serve as a continuous
backup power supply with the addition of extra battery modules.
Many power conditioners deal only with the electrical supply. But it's not
just the power-supply connections to your A/V components that need protecting-it's
very common for surges and spikes to enter a system over coaxial, telephone,
or Ethernet lines. Rotel's low-insertion-loss protection jacks provide complete
protection at all of these entry points. Three pairs of coax jacks are included
to protect CATV, satellite, and antenna lines. The RLC-1080 also includes a
low-insertion-loss splitter to facilitate splitting a coax line to both a CATV
box and a cable modem, for those who have broadband service provided by their
cable TV provider.
RLC-1080
The RLC-1080 is designed to protect very-high-performance home entertainment
systems. It will ensure uninterrupted power, to make any electronics system
perform flawlessly. In the event of a complete power outage, or extremely deep
power sag or over-voltage situation, the RLC-1080 power conditioner with internal
battery backup will instantaneously provide pure-sinewave power from its internal
batteries for up to 7.5 minutes with a full load, and for up to 24 minutes
with a half load. That's plenty of time to shut down the entertainment system.
In addition to the RLC-1080's built-in emergency batteries, this model comes
with the option of adding external batteries to extend the system's working
time to a full 70 minutes at full load or 140 minutes at half load. With this
option, you could continue watching most movies to the end, even if the power
didn't come back on in time.
RLC-1040
The RLC-1040 is identical to the RLC-1080, with all of the same critical power
conditioning, filtering, custom features, and audible and visual warnings,
but does not include internal or external battery backup.

Rotel introduces two new Class D power amplifiers
North Reading, MA-April 2006-Rotel, well-known throughout the world as a manufacturer
of affordable high-end components for music and home-theater audio-video systems,
has launched two new Class D power amplifiers, the RB-1091 and RB-1092 both
featuring ICEpower®.
With the recently introduced RMB-1077, these two new switching-mode power-supply
amplifier designs augment the Rotel Class D lineup to provide multiple power-amplifier
options for the widest array of Home Theater and Hi Fi applications.
According to Mike Bartlett, Vice President and General Manager of Rotel of
America, "Consumers today are looking for ways to put a large number of electronics
into small spaces, especially in custom installations. When that occurs, heat
becomes a problem. That's the beauty of Class D power amplifiers-you can achieve
very high efficiency with lots of output power and very little heat."
Rotel Electronics RB-1092 Amplifier
Not all Class D amplifiers are alike. There are two categories: namely digitally
controlled Class D and analog-controlled Class D. The former features a digitally
generated control that switches a power stage. The latter amplifier design
utilizes an analog input signal with a switching power supply. Rotel has taken
this analog-controlled Class D design a step further with the implementation
of two important technologies from ICEpower®.
The first is Controlled Oscillation Modulation (COM). The COM circuit is analog
throughout. A saw-tooth waveform modulates the analog input to generate the
Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) signal that drives the switching output stage.
This architecture yields lower noise and distortion than would an otherwise
equivalent design based on a digital modulator.
The second improvement is Multivariable Enhanced Cascade Control (MECC). This
circuit encloses the output filter within a feedback path, resulting in very
low output impedance (high damping factor) across the entire audio band. Not
only is the amplifier clean and quiet, it also has flat frequency response
no matter what sort of speaker impedance is hung across its output.
Rotel's new RB-1091 and RB-1092 switching Class D amplifiers incorporate both
COM and MECC. A 500-watt mono amplifier is found in the RB-1091, and the RB-1092
is a 2 x 500 watt stereo amplifier. They can be configured in various ways
to provide from one to seven channels, or more, of extremely high power with
very little heat.
These intelligent designs feature high-power output capability with a minimum
of chassis height and represent one of the very few real advances in power
amplifiers since the invention of the solid-state transistor. Both the RB-1091
and RB-1092 have also been designed with custom installation in mind, and include
12-volt triggers, detachable IEC power cords, five-way binding posts, and Neutrik
Speakon® connectors, a quik-lock connector used in professional audio systems.

Rotel introduces new RSX-1057 surround-sound receiver with HDMI capability
North Reading, MA-April 2006-Rotel, the manufacturer of affordable, high-end
electronics headquartered in Japan, has introduced the RSX-1057,a new five-channel
surround receiver with HDMI capability. The High-Definition Multimedia Interface
(HDMI) is an all-digital audio/video interface that provides, over a single
cable, communication between any audio/video source (such as a set-top box,
DVD player, or A/V receiver) and an audio and/or video monitor (such as a digital
television or DTV).
HDMI supports standard, enhanced, and high-definition video, plus multichannel
digital audio, on a single cable. It transmits all ATSC HDTV standards up to
1080p, and supports 8-channel digital audio, with bandwidth left over to accommodate
future enhancements and requirements. The RSX-1057 is HDMI-ready now, with
two HDMI inputs and one HDMI output to connect your A/V components to the latest-generation
video displays with 1080p capability.
Mike Bartlett, Rotel's Vice-President and General Manager, says, "The new
RSX-1057 has all of the flexibility and performance that consumers want for
a typical home theater system, yet it also incorporates all of the necessary
features required by custom installers."
From a quick glance at its specifications, Rotel's new RSX-1057 surround-sound
receiver might seem just another entry in this very crowded component category.
Yet the RSX-1057 distinguishes itself from the competition during actual use,
with an overbuilt power supply that delivers the extreme voltage and current
required during those explosive soundtracks so prevalent in today's movies.
The high-current amplifier section puts a full 75 watts RMS per channel at
your sonic disposal-and that's with all five channels driven simultaneously
from 20Hz to 20kHz with no more than 0.05% THD! In the real world, this is
far more power than you'll get from products whose manufacturers provide only
two-channel ratings. Of course, Rotel's superb power-supply design helps, as
do careful parts evalu¬ation and selection. But all of that is simply part
of Rotel's Balanced Design heritage.
Moving your system to a larger environment, or an eventual move to full 7.1-channel
surround capability? The RSX-1057 also features an option that provides for
the simple addi¬tion of a two-channel amplifier to expand your home-theater
options to full 7.1.
And Rotel hasn't forgotten convenience. The RSX-1057 provides analog and digital
connections for up to seven additional components. And it even allows you to
assign inputs, relabel inputs, perform advanced bass management, and equalize
channels.
Advanced microprocessors from Crystal Semiconductor handle Dolby Digital,
Dolby Digital EX, DTS, DTS ES Discrete and Matrix, DTS 24/96, DTS Neo:6, and
Dolby Pro Logic II decoding, as well as provide several music modes for your
enjoyment. Three component inputs and internal video transcoding let you see
the best picture possible, regardless of your source.
The RSX-1057 is perfect for any installation, especially those that require
special features for custom applications such as an RS-232 interface, multi-room,
multi-source output with composite video, three assignable 12-volt trigger
outputs, discrete on/off remote-control command codes, rear-panel IR inputs,
and a detach¬able AC power cord. A fully programmable remote control is
standard.

the new Rotel unbeatable appeal for high-performance, seven-channel power in
custom-installation home theaters, or wherever super efficient, ultracompact,
multi-channel power is required.
“With the RMB-1077 we’re looking at the future of audio amplifiers,” says
Rotel America VP and General Manager Mike Bartlett. “Digital technologies
and ‘smart’ power-supply design have finally evolved to the point
where they can yield an amplifier that rivals and even outpaces the performance
of traditional, brute-force, ‘copper-and-capacitors’ designs.”
Key to the remarkable new RMB-1077’s design are two proprietary technologies.
Rotel’s Controlled Oscillation Modulation (COM) underpins entirely new
levels of efficiency, stability, and effectiveness from a switching-type digital
power supply, while Rotel’s, Multivariable Enhanced Cascade Control (MECC)
circuit topology creates a “smart” amplifier in which the power
supply and the actual amplifying circuits work cooperatively to boost efficiency
to a most impressive 90%.
Over Please
The result is a seven-channel, 2-1/2” tall power amplifier that is far
less massive than many two-channel preamplifiers, yet offers a stable, dynamic,
musical, full-bandwidth 100W from each channel. The RMB-1077 is ideal for all
home-theater configurations and with 12-volt trigger facilities for automated
system integration and a detachable IEC-standard power cord, the RMB-1077 integrates
