MAZDA CANADA INTRODUCES ALL-NEW MAZDA6

-- Designed to Set a New Standard in the Intermediate Segment -- (Scarborough, ON): The Mazda6 is an entirely new name for a completely new car that will enhance Mazda’s reach in the very important intermediate market segment. To fully embody Mazda’s“ Zoom-Zoom” spirit three major goals were established for the
development of the Mazda6:
Retain Mazda’s rich heritage as an innovator in developing cutting-edge performance and technology, while delivering distinct styling and wealth of customer-oriented safety and security features.

Meet or beat the driving dynamics, performance and refinement of the best European midsize sedans, while retaining secure, all-weather performance of front-wheel drive.
Exceed the quietness and refinement of the best Japanese midsize sedans.

New Design for a New Vehicle

Sculpted body surfaces on the Mazda 6 are refined with defined shoulders to emphasize athleticism. The elimination of corners on the vehicle and the design "tension" placed in the centre of the hood and around the centre of the vehicle - placing the "visual weight" of the car between the front and rear wheels of the car - asserts the brand among the boxy cars in this segment today. Chrome and other
decorative material were sparingly and expertly used as accents on the Mazda6. The face of the Mazda6 is bold and predatory; its aggressive smile says this is not your ordinary midsize sedan.

Zoom-Zoom to Compete With the Best

Mazda6's all-new platform allowed Mazda to develop a car that could compete with some of the best brands from Germany. This new platform, combined with newly designed front and rear suspension, rewards the driver who wants dynamic performance, while at the same time delivering, comfortable, long-distance ride comfort.

The Mazda6 is more responsive and more capable, more of a driver's car because it was designed to deliver well-rounded, fun-to- drive attributes:

Stability - Mazda6 runs straight and true, requiring less steering wheel correction in typical road conditions than major competitors.
Steering responsiveness - Mazda6's cornering performance is better and quicker than a list of top German and Japanese competitors.
Predictable handling - Mazda6's self-levelling rear suspension helps to minimize changes in the vehicle's handling characteristics under differing load conditions.
Impressive acceleration - Mazda6's new 2.3-liter engine will deliver class-leading performance.
Braking power - Mazda6's impressive braking capabilities give it a short, 37-meter (121.4 ft.) braking distance from 100 km/h to zero.
Ride comfort - Mazda6's ability to isolate road vibrations and noise from rough roads isn't bettered in its segment.

A Modern Powertrain Lineup

Mazda Motor Corporation’s new family of 4-cylinder engines is the latest in a new range of powertrains that will establish Mazda as Ford Motor Company’s development leader for large 4-cylinder engine development. An advanced 2.3-litre engine with Mazda’s Sequential Valve Timing (S-VT)and rated at 160-horsepower will be one powerplant available on the Canadian specification Mazda6. As well, Mazda will offer a 3.0-litre aluminium V6 optimized for low-friction efficiency and high power and torque output. The 24-valve engine also is equipped with sequential valve timing and produces 220- horsepower at 6250 rpm with maximum torque of 192 lb-ft achieved at 4750 rpm.

Designed to World-class Safety Standards

The Mazda6 has an extensive list of safety equipment that reflects the new, innovative spirit of the Mazda brand. Insightfully engineered to meet or exceed crash safety standards in all major world markets, the Mazda6 is designed to achieve high ratings in the prestigious Euro-NCAP independent crash safety testing program,
JNCAP and USNCAP.

Smart new technology gives the new Mazda6 an extra level of safety protection. New dual-stage air bags give Mazda6 the ability to customize the deployment of its passive safety protection for front-seat occupants. The new system uses an advanced Crash Zone Sensor at the front of the vehicle to determine the type and severity of the frontal impact. It then signals a sensor control module unit inside the
vehicle to deploy the front air bags as necessary for optimal occupant protection.

Named for three H-shaped sections of the body structure that are central to its ability to channel crash energy, the Triple-H architecture of the Mazda6 is an intelligent engineering approach to occupant protection. It is part of a broad focus on creating a rigid occupant protection shell surrounded by energy absorbing structures.

More Room to Zoom-Zoom

The all-new Mazda6 has been designed insightfully to provide spaciousness and comfort for the vehicle occupants, excellent ergonomic positioning of the seats and controls and innovations in load-space flexibility.

The Mazda6 is 50 mm wider (1.97 inches) than leading vehicles in its segment. Mazda put this extra width to good use in the vehicle interior, while keeping the Mazda6 a highly manoeuvrable vehicle. It features front shoulder room of 1,425 mm (56.1 inches), more than its major Japanese and German competitors. The generous shoulder room contributes to the feeling of roominess and comfort that is a first
impression of this new midsize Mazda car family.

Efforts also focused on providing rear-seat passengers a more comfortable seating posture. Not only do they benefit from increased shoulder room, but more importantly, passengers in the rear seat have more comfortable knee room. Knee clearance in the new Mazda6 for rear-seat passengers is a generous 61 mm (2.4 inches). That's more knee clearance than some vehicles in the next larger vehicle class, giving Mazda6's rear-seat passengers a comfortable seating position
for relaxed, long-distance cruising.

Extensive effort in the design and ergonomic engineering of the Mazda6 was devoted to providing the optimal seating position for the driver. Mazda strove to provide a comfortable seating position that would give the driver clear feedback on the vehicle movements, have clear outward visibility for a wide range of statures, and position the driver optimally to operate the controls and switches.

The new Mazda 6 offers a spacious trunk for the stowage of luggage and other cargos carried in everyday motoring life. Its volume, 500 litres (17.6 cu.-ft.) for the Mazda 6 sedan, is class leading, nearly 35 litres (1.24 cu.-ft.) more than the segment sales leader.
