HP Expands Colour Printing Options for Small Businesses, Introduces World's Fastest Inkjet All-in-ones
MISSISSAUGA, ON, Feb. 6, 2007 - HP today expanded its colour printing portfolio targeting small businesses, including the introduction of the world's fastest desktop all-in-ones.(1)
The portfolio offers industry-leading speed and affordability and includes three new high-performance HP Officejet Pro All-in-Ones, three new HP Officejet Pro single-function printers and a new low-cost HP Officejet All-in-One for improved productivity.
"The high-performance HP Officejet Pro All-in-Ones provide small businesses with colour printing comparable to laser printing with faster speeds and at a fraction of the cost," said Karl Schwenkmeyer, vice president of marketing, Inkjet Systems, HP. "Today's introductions are another milestone in HP's commitment to deliver faster speeds and greater affordability while meeting the colour printing needs of demanding business environments."
Expanded colour printing portfolio and new all-in-one printers
The new HP Officejet Pro printers series, the world's fastest desktop printers for business colour,(1) significantly drive down the cost of colour printing, making it easy and affordable for businesses to produce brilliant and durable, professional-quality marketing materials in-house.
The printers are ideally suited for small businesses, which can increase productivity and save space by printing, copying, scanning and faxing in one convenient, single device that sits on a desktop. Both Officejet Pro printer series are built on HP's Scalable Printing Technology, which offers faster speeds, lower costs and higher quality and reliability.
The HP Officejet Pro L7000 All-in-One Printer series includes multifunction capabilities and allows users to quickly print documents at Laser Quality Speeds(2) of up to 12 pages per minute (ppm) black and up to 10 ppm colour. And they do this at up to 25 percent lower cost per page than comparable laser printers - as low as 6 cents per colour page.(3) The Officejet Pro L7000 series is expected to be available in March and starts at $399 CDN.(4)
HP established Laser Quality Speed (LQS) to offer customers a more direct comparison of the print speeds between ink and laser printers using comparable print qualities. The print speed experienced by customers from an inkjet printer is dependent on many variables, including the coverage and content of the printed document. In contrast, laser print speed is much less dependent on document content and coverage. LQS allows a more direct comparison with published laser printer ppm speed specifications. For more information visit www.hp.com/hpinfo/newsroom/press_kits/2007/smbcolorprinting/prodsol.html.
The HP Officejet Pro K5400 Printer series delivers fast, Laser Quality Speeds(2) and up to 25 percent lower cost per page than in-class laser printers,(5) with comparable print quality and reliability. This series is expected to be available in March starting at $199 CDN.(4)
The HP Officejet J5700 All-in-One Printer series, with expected availability in February and starting at $199 CDN,(4) offers customers another robust, versatile printing solution for increased productivity at an affordable price.
All the new Officejet devices use high-capacity, low cost-per-page print cartridges with a unique HP Vivera ink optimized for plain paper office printing. HP Vivera inks provide laser-quality text and consistent, brilliant images for brochures and marketing collateral on any paper as well as highly smear-resistant results when using HP Everyday Papers with ColorLok Technology.
HP Everyday Papers with ColorLok Technology are HP's plain papers designed with HP printers for office use. Documents printed on these papers dry quickly and resist smearing for excellent results.
All of the products listed above will be available at the HP Home & Home Office Store (www.hpshopping.ca), HP's direct to customer online store.
Customers share their experiences with the new HP Officejet Pro series
HP recently offered the new HP Officejet Pro L7000 All-in-One series to small business users through a beta test program. Los Angeles-based Law Offices of Philip H. Acosta tested the new products with the goal of printing marketing collateral in-house. Acosta's office found that the new HP Officejet Pro L7000 All-in-One series helped keep its marketing pieces flowing, both for proofs and for printing colour materials.
"The HP Officejet Pro is a good match for a small legal firm," said Christina Acosta, vice president, Marketing and Advertising, Law Offices of Philip H. Acosta. "It's very fast, especially for smaller jobs, and offers multiple functions and quality printing for a mix of text and colour graphics."
Winner's Circle Realty & Construction Co. LLC, a customer home and real estate sales company based in Chowchilla, Calif., near Fresno, also tested the new Officejet Pro series to create custom brochures for listings, a front-line marketing tool for real estate professionals. Like most small businesses, Winner's Circle needs office equipment that is both flexible and reliable, which is why owner Brian L. Kirkpatrick has turned to HP inkjet printers and all-in-ones for routine office tasks.
"I couldn't be more satisfied with the print quality. It's just excellent," said Kirkpatrick. "The quality of output from the new Officejet Pro is almost like the printing of a fine coffee table book."
Extended supplies costs savings
Optional high-capacity HP Vivera ink cartridges offer small and medium-size business customers convenience and savings when printing in high volumes. High-capacity print cartridges give customers more prints, which translates to less time spent changing cartridges and more time spent on business. And HP's expansive supplies portfolio, including high-capacity cartridges and dual cartridge packs, enables lower cost per page and total cost of ownership for Officejet and Officejet Pro printing systems.
HP and Nokia to Work Together on Wireless Printing Concept
for Series 60 Phones
New Bluetooth Printing Application Intended to Enable Point and Shoot
-- and Now Print
PALO ALTO, Calif., and ESPOO, Finland -- HP (NYSE:HPQ)
and Nokia (NYSE:NOK) are working together on a printing application for
Series 60 phones based on the Bluetooth industry standard. The work is
designed to enable consumers and business professionals to print content
from their phones to HP Bluetooth enabled printers at the touch of a button.
With the printing application, users of Series 60 phones such as the
Nokia 7650 and Nokia 3650 could select various types of content from the
phone and send it to an HP Bluetooth enabled printer via the Basic Print
Profile (BPP) for printing. These capabilities have the potential to offer
greater flexibility and enhance the mobile experience for people on the
go.
The Bluetooth printing application, currently in development at HP,
is targeting functionality that could allow users to print items such
as photos, multimedia message service (MMS) messages with images, e-mail,
short message service (SMS), notepad files, contacts and calendar items
from their Series 60 phones. With mobile phone printing capabilities,
the function of the phone extends beyond verbal communication and would
give consumers a new level of convenience and freedom, wirelessly.
HP's exploration of wireless printing solutions is part of the company's
strategy to accelerate the delivery of quality mobile and wireless printing
applications and services for customers.
"Printing from Nokia's Series 60 phones is a natural extension
of what people want to do with digital information. Whether you want to
print e-mails or photos, these capabilities may be possible through this
solution currently being explored by HP Labs," said George Mulhern,
senior vice president, HP Imaging and Printing Group. "HP and Nokia
have a solid reputation for delivering quality solutions to their customers
and we expect great things could come out of enabling people to print
from a print-enabled Series 60 phone to an HP Bluetooth printer."
"As the market leader in mobile communications, Nokia is driving
the wide-scale adoption of Bluetooth in the mobile arena. The convenience,
speed and reliability with local wireless connections will simplify consumers'
mobile experience," said Juha Putkiranta, senior vice president,
Imaging Business Unit, Nokia Mobile Phones. "The openness of the
Bluetooth printing application is a testimony of our efforts in promoting
interoperability and how wireless technology may provide new and exciting
solutions that are flexible to suit users' needs and lifestyles. This
application is a great example of what may become possible when you combine
imaging phones like the Nokia 7650 and Nokia 3650 and Bluetooth printers
from HP."
To print from Series 60 phones, the user first selects a content type
(images, MMS message, etc.) and then selects a specific item of that type
(for example, a couple of images or an MMS message with an image attachment).
When satisfied with the selection, the user then selects the BPP-enabled
Bluetooth printer they wish to use for print. This could come from either
a list of saved printers or by actively detecting nearby Bluetooth BPP
devices. Once the device is selected and verified to be within range and
that it supports BPP, the formatted data would be sent to the printer
while the transmission status is shown.
Bluetooth technology is the joint achievement of leading companies within
the computer and telecommunications industries. Nokia is a founding member
and HP an early associate member of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group,
an organization that has gained worldwide support. With international
interest in Bluetooth technology, the range of Bluetooth applications
will need to be large and diverse.
Nokia and HP both have organizations that support third-party developers.
Nokia arranges developer conferences, distributes information via e-mail
and organizes special electronic discussion boards for developers. HP
offers developers opportunities for expanding their business portfolios
through the HP Printing and Digital Imaging Solutions provider program.
The program offers developers with valuable resources, including tools
and developer kits, training, marketing support and a variety of services.

HP Opens Next Chapter of Mobile Computing with Innovative
Tablet PC
Versatile Compaq Tablet PC Adapts Mobile Technology to Suit Any
Work Style
MISSISSAUGA, Nov. 7, 2002 - Hewlett-Packard (Canada) Co. today is changing
the landscape of mobile computing with the introduction of the Compaq
Tablet PC TC1000, a versatile, full-function mobile PC that adapts to
the way users work.
Wireless-enabled and highly portable, the tablet PC combines the power
of digital inking technologies in the Windows(r) XP Tablet PC Edition
operating system with a full-function PC. It allows users to work in ways
that are comfortable, familiar and efficient without sacrificing the capabilities
they have come to expect with conventional Windows(r) XP-based PCs.
When used as a tablet, the Compaq Tablet PC captures digital ink as
it flows from an electronic pen onto the PC's screen, much like a person
would use pen and paper. When typing is preferred, users can simply snap
on a lightweight, removable keyboard and convert the Compaq Tablet PC
into an ultra-portable notebook.
Combined with its innovative docking solution, a full-size keyboard
and a monitor, the Compaq Tablet PC transforms into a full-function desktop
PC. The flexible docking solution also allows users to place the Tablet
PC in a natural, comfortable position to write on the screen while at
a desk.
The docking solution provides customers the ability to use two display
monitors at once, expanding the work space and increasing productivity
by allowing users to view multiple applications on either an optional
second monitor or the Tablet PC screen in portrait or landscape mode.
The Compaq Tablet PC features "grab-and-go" functionality, allowing
a customer to seamlessly transition from a desktop to mobile environment.
In assessing the Compaq Tablet PC, Accenture, one of the world's leading
management consulting and technology services organizations, sees its
potential as a tool to help remote workers.
"This Tablet PC is an exciting new option designed to empower mobile
workers," said Accenture Partner Steve Mankoff. "Field service
and other remote users can now take advantage of the standard, paper-sized
screen and the selection of input alternatives, including pen, keyboard
or voice. Windows XP Tablet PC Edition allows a wide array of connectivity
alternatives, and when combined with the Compaq Tablet PC, should provide
a platform for increased productivity and usability."
"We designed the Compaq Tablet PC to adapt to the way people work
in today's fast-paced business environment," said Lloyd Bryant, vice-president
and general manager, personal systems group at HP Canada. "When it's
time for a meeting, the customer can just grab the Tablet PC and go --
taking notes and doing email on a wireless network.
"When back at the desk, the Compaq Tablet PC uses an innovative
docking system to transform into a full-featured desktop with monitor,
mouse and full keyboard. When you need to travel, simply grab the attachable
keyboard and go, our design allows customers to stay fully productive
through their entire business day."
Because the tablet PC's innovative design provides greater flexibility,
users can now more efficiently accomplish common business tasks such as
taking handwritten notes in a meeting for later reference or conversion
to text, annotating documents or presentations using digital ink, reading
electronic magazines or books, or even discretely sending handwritten
messages wirelessly during meetings.
The Compaq Tablet PC also can be used for specialized applications in
fields such as healthcare, legal, manufacturing and field sales and service
to help customers solve real-world problems.
"The Compaq Tablet PC TC1000 will be a great new option for physicians
at the point of care. Its unique design will make it easier for physicians
to use both at their desk with the attached keyboard and in the exam room
with the keyboard removed," said Steven P. Schwartz, vice president
of Strategic Alliances, Allscripts Healthcare Solutions, Inc. "We
especially like that customers who choose these devices will now be able
to utilize the full resources of our solution in both places."
Measuring merely 0.8-inch thin and weighing only three pounds, the Compaq
Tablet PC TC1000 delivers all the performance and features users expect
to find in a full-function Windows XP Professional ultra-portable notebook.
The tablet PC also includes: a Transmeta Crusoe TM5800 1.0-GHz processor
that delivers an optimal combination of battery life and performance;
a 10.4-inch TFT display featuring a wide viewing angle, hardened cover
glass and NVIDIA GeForce2 Go 100 high resolution graphics; built-in 802.11b
wireless LAN capabilities; up to 60 GB SMART hard drives; and USB 2.0
connectivity.
Additionally, the Compaq Tablet PC incorporates user-friendly features
such as fully programmable launch buttons and a jog dial to enable users
one-touch access to launch preset programs and navigate and scroll through
applications. The Q menu allows for quick access to common functions such
as display brightness, internal wireless control and video-to-projector
controls.

Compaq Evo Thin Clients T30 and T20 Unveiled
HP also introduced two new models in its successful thin client line
for enterprise customers: the slim, stylish Compaq Evo thin clients T30
and T20 with Microsoft Windows CE.net embedded operating system.
Thin clients are small, solid-state devices that connect to current

on the server and there are no local drives or moving parts, thin clients
are inherently easier to manage and offer enterprise customers greater
reliability and security with dramatically lower computing costs.
Compaq Evo thin client solutions are ideal for companies with departments
that run highly standardized computing tasks within constrained workspaces,
such as call centers, or require a highly reliable network of computers
running critical applications, such as hospitals or insurance agencies.
The new Evo T30 and enhanced T20 models have a Geode GX1 300 MHz processor,
up to 32 MB of flash memory and up to 64 MB of RAM for outstanding performance
and value. The Evo T20 is legacy-free with four USB ports. The Evo T30
offers continued legacy support and a PCMCIA slot.
Available immediately, Compaq Evo thin clients start at an estimated
Canadian street price of $619.(1) More information about Compaq Evo thin
clients is available at http://www.compaq.ca/english/business/thinclient/newmodels.htm.

Two new additions to the Compaq commercial monitor family also were
introduced: the Compaq TFT1520 and TFT1720 flat panels. Easy to set up
and use, the monitors allow users to view electronic documents in either
portrait or landscape mode. In addition, the monitors feature icon-based,
on-screen controls to easily adjust settings and store them in memory.

the small home office or home activities such as Internet browsing, e-mail
and Microsoft Office applications.
For more demanding display needs, the 17-inch Compaq TFT1720 monitor
offers outstanding picture quality with greater viewing capacity at an
estimated Canadian street price starting at $1159.(1)
Both monitors are plug-and-play compatible and designed for optimum
comfort with features that allow users to tilt-and-swivel and adjust the
height of the screen to position the monitor to their individual needs.
The Compaq TFT1520 and TFT1720 are expected to be available in early
October. More information about these and other Compaq monitors is available

HP Defines the Digital Lifestyle with
New HP Media Center PC
MISSISSAUGA, ON., September 3, 2002 -- Hewlett-Packard (Canada) Ltd.
today announced the HP Media Center PC, which integrates both computing
and entertainment features into an all-in-one, easy-to-use and affordable
digital media center.
The only PC to be available this holiday season in North America with
the new Microsoft(r) Windows(r) XP Media Center Edition software, the
HP Media Center PC will combine the functionality of a PC, DVD and CD
players and recorders, a TV, a digital jukebox and other consumer electronics
components for spaces where consumers would want both a PC and entertainment
solution -- such as a den, game room, teenager's bedroom, dorm room or
small apartment.
"Entertainment is already one of the most popular uses for consumer
PCs," said John Kelly, category business manager, consumer PCs. "HP
is taking advantage of the convergence of these two market segments by
providing users an all-in-one entertainment PC."
Featuring a sleek black and chrome design, the new HP Media Center PC
will have a six-in-one media card reader on its front panel for quick
and easy transfer of digital music, photos and other data. In addition,
the PC will feature a specially designed remote control and front and
back USB 2.0 and IEEE 1394 ports for simple hook up of handheld devices
and transfer of video. Offering the latest in PC technology, it will also
be configurable with powerful Intel(r) Pentium(r) 4 processors over 2
gigahertz, NVIDIA GeForce4 graphics, Klipsch speakers, HP DVD Writer,
and photo and home movie creation and editing software.
The new Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition will allow the HP
Media Center PC user to enjoy digital entertainment -- including live
television, personal video recording, digital music, digital video, DVDs
and pictures -- in an easy-to-use, remote-controlled interface similar
to the simple, point-and-choose menu screens found on today's DVD movies.
Intended to be used with a PC monitor, the HP Media Center PC also will
be able to connect to a TV for a large-screen viewing experience.
"Consumers are ready to get more from their home PC, and together
with Windows XP Media Center Edition and HP's Media Center PC we're poised
to bring a really exciting new computer experience to market this fall,"
said Natalie Tehrani, marketing manager at Microsoft Canada. "We
applaud HP's efforts in innovating well beyond the traditional beige box.
We hope consumers who are shopping for a PC this holiday season will be
equally impressed and take home the HP Media Center PC to enjoy their
favourite digital media as well as leverage the power of this machine
as a productivity center."
With this new PC and remote control, recording popular TV shows will
be as easy as selecting the program from the free(1), easy-to-use programming
guide information that is downloaded from the Internet. Choose the "record"
function with the remote and the system will record the program onto the
PC for future viewing, without the need to program channels and recording
times as with traditional VCRs.
Digital photos, videos and music will be able to be viewed and shared
easily with the new Windows Media Center Edition interface. When saving
these types of digital files to the PC, Windows automatically prompts
the user to save the content into one of the default "My Pictures,"
"My Music" or "My Videos" folders. The Media Center
interface will then automatically retrieve and display the saved photos,
video images and music information directly out of these folders. All
users have to do is point the remote to choose the file they want to view
or listen to, without having to access the traditional multiple PC file
menus.
HP Offers Photos that Surpass Look and
Feel of Traditional Photos, Resist Fading More Than Twice as Long as Most
Traditionally Processed Prints
HP Continues Its Largest Consumer Product Rollout with Introduction of
Eight New Digital Imaging Products
Mississauga, ON, July 29, 2002 - Hewlett-Packard (Canada) Ltd. today
announced new digital imaging offerings which produce prints that surpass
both the photo quality and fade resistance - up to 73 years~, more than
twice as long as most traditional prints - of traditionally processed
photographs. The introduction of these eight products, including four
photo printers, photo paper and three digital cameras, continues HP's
largest consumer product rollout in company history.
"This introduction marks a milestone in HP's efforts to make it
radically simple for consumers to capture and share photos," said
Susan Khan, category manager, HP Digital Imaging and Printing. "These
new products are a direct result of the investment HP has made in its
US$20 billion imaging and printing business to make it easy for everyday
people to enjoy the convenience of printing photos at home."
The HP Photosmart 7550, 7350 and 71 50 photo printers feature new, industry-leading
print technology that, when used in conjunction with HP's enhanced Premium
Plus Photo Papers, gives consumers prints that exceed both the photo quality
and image permanence of traditionally processed photographs. In fact,
a recent study conducted by SpencerLab Digital Color Laboratory, a premier
consulting firm specializing in digital imaging technology, showed more
consumers prefer HP-printed digital images to traditionally processed
photos.
"When presented with prints of five different photos, U.S. consumer
respondents preferred HP prints more than other ink jet and silver halide
prints," said David Spencer, president, SpencerLab Digital Color
Laboratory. "Most participants did not realize inkjet printers are
capable of producing true-to-life photographs. The test proved to be a
real eye-opener."
The HP Photosmart 1 30 photo printer also loins HP's line of photo printers,
offering consumers a compact, on-the-go solution for producing photo-quality,
4 x 6-inch prints from virtually anywhere. It features CompactFlash, Secure
Digital, SmartMedia, MultiMedia and Sony Memory Stick memory card slots
and offers impressive, borderless prints with up to 4,800-optimized dots
per inch (dpi).
In addition, HP introduced the HP Photosmart 720, 620 and 320 digital
cameras, featuring the exclusive HP Instant Share technology, which enables
users to easily choose where photos will be sent or printed.
"Digital cameras have become so popular among Internet-connected
consumers because they enable users to view and share their photos instantly,"
said Michelle Slaughter, research analyst, InfoTrends. "HP's Instant
Share feature increases users' ability to take immediate action with the
digital photos, enhancing one of the most desirable attributes of digital
photography."
HP Photo Printers, Papers and Inks Deliver Quality and Ease of Use
The HP Photosmart 7550, 7350 and 7150 photo printers offer HP's best
photo quality with up to 4,800-optimized dpi or up to six- and seven ink
colour printing, producing vivid colours and realistic skin tones. Photos
printed using the HP 57 Tri-colour inkjet print cartridge and the new
HP 58 Photo cartridge resist fading for up to 73 years when printed on
HP Premium Plus Photo Papers -- lasting more than twice as long as most
traditional prints.
The HP Photosmart 7550 photo printer allows users to preview, edit and
enhance photos using its LCD screen and front-panel buttons. Additionally,
the HP Photosmart 7550 and 7350 photo printers offer users the ability
to print borderless 4 x 6-inch prints and feature slots that accommodate
CompactFlash, Secure Digital, SmartMedia, MultiMedia rind Sony Memory
Stick memory cards for computer-free printing. The three printers also
feature front USB ports, giving HP Photosmart digital camera owners another
way to print photos without using a computer.
The new HP Premium Plus Photo Papers, developed for use with HP's new
photo inks and new generation of inkjet printers, give consumers the ability
to print professional-quality photos that surpass the quality of traditionally
processed photographs. The 1 0-mil thickness and high-gloss coating combined
with the HP No 57 and 58 ink cartridges offer vivid colours, realistic
skin tones and glossy blacks give the prints a professional photo-finish
look and feel.
HP Digital Cameras Feature Exclusive Photo-sharing Technology
With a variety of resolution choices from 2.1-megapixels to 3.3-megapixels,
the HP Photosmart 720, 620 and 320 digital cameras capture all the detail
for brilliant results and record motion to capture the memories as they
happen. Additionally, HP Photosmart 720 digital camera users also will
be able to capture sound along with motion.
All three digital cameras feature HP Instant Share technology and are
compatible with the optional HP Photosmart 8881 digital camera dock, which
allows users to easily connect to a computer, TV or printer while recharging
batteries.
HP Instant Share technology is an Internet-based software application
that allows for quick and easy sharing of digital photos with friends
and family. From the back of the camera, users can select up to 1 4 destinations
for any photo; then, by connecting the camera to a computer, the photos
are instantly sent to the selected destinations -- email addresses, printers
or hpphoto.com.
If the destination is an e-mail address, a low-resolution thumbnail image
is sent along with access to the original high-resolution image. if the
destination is a printer, then a high-resolution image is automatically
